Humboldt High junior Kylee Carson did not receive league honors. But her season’s performance did get noticed.
Carson was named to the Kansas Softball Coaches Association’s Kansas Class 2-1A state softball first team this week. Carson, who played first base, had a .523 batting average with 34 hits — 14 doubles, 1 triple and three home runs.
One of those home runs was a three-run shot over the center field fence in the Lady Cubs’ state tournament opening-round game. The Lady Cubs lost the game. Carson also had a double in the contest.
Carson had 31 RBIs for the season. In Humboldt’s regional championship game, Carson hit three doubles.
Tri-Valley League coaches handed out league honors for baseball and softball recently.
Humboldt High’s baseball team was co-champion of the TVL landing three members on the 2011 All-Tri-Valley League first team. Freshman pitcher Grayson Pearish, sophomore pitcher Nathan Whitcomb and freshman center fielder Caleb Vanatta were named to the league elite squad.
Joining the Cubs was senior pitcher and shortstop Dalton Smith of Yates Center. Yates Center senior Austin Knoblock earned honorable mention.
For softball honors. Humboldt senior pitcher Melissa Davidson and Yates Center senior catcher Drew Spencer were selected to the 2011 All-TVL first team. Humboldt senior Taylyn Wells received honorable mention as a utility player.
